Cheers to the "Weed Mom"

This month's issue of Boston Magazine features an entertaining and enlightening article about the growing popularity of cannabis among suburban moms and the evolution of the "wine mom" to the "weed mom."

The article notes that, "By 2020, women were the fastest growing group of new cannabis consumers, increasing year-over-year sales by 43 percent." Today, about one third of the Massachusetts cannabis market is female.

These stats, and the undeniable anecdotal evidence throughout many city suburbs, bust the myth of the stereotypical stoned out twenty-something male as the dominant cannabis consumer. “The future of cannabis is female,” says Bethany Gomez, managing director at Brightfield Group, a cannabis market research agency.

What's driving this consumer shift in cannabis? Recreational legalization in Massachusetts for one. The pandemic lockdown played a role as well. But, the article credits mostly a desire to scale back alcohol consumption and replace it with something more mellow and with many fewer unwanted side effects like hangovers.

Peter Grinspoon, a cannabis specialist at Mass General adds his own theory on the growing popularity of cannabis, “In a perfect world, we’d all eat tofu, do yoga, meditate, and be perfectly harmonious. But in reality, most people need something stronger.

In our research we heard loud and clear feedback from women and men alike a desire for a more social, discreet, cleaner, and healthier way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis. In fact, the stigma, unpredictability, and health concerns around smoking, vaping, and even eating edibles, was turning a lot of otherwise interested cannabis consumers away.

So, to all the "weed moms" (and dads) out there, we invite you to check out melt, a new drink enhancement product developed specifically with you in mind. Your late afternoon fruit smoothie will never be the same...
